PulPac pioneers sustainable fiber packaging with advanced automation
With their latest launch of machinery, the Scala, PulPac has pioneered fiber-forming making fiber-based products competitive with single-use plastics and even more sustainable than traditional fiber-forming with up to 80% lower CO2 footprint.
Scala is PulPac’s new, plug-and-play machine, that offers every benefit of Dry Molded Fiber.
PulPac, a pioneer in packaging technology, is pushing the boundaries of what cellulosic fibers can be used for. The goal for PulPac is to replace single-use plastic with its fiber-forming technology. Through its ecosystem, PulPac facilitates the rapid scaling of responsibly produced packaging in which sustainability is not just a consideration but a fundamental principle. PulPac machines produces sustainable packaging solutions such as cold lids, protective lids, hot lids, cutlery, trays, etc.
Scala is PulPac’s new plug-and-play machine that can produce Dry Molded Fiber products using their patented technology in a new and more compact format with a fully integrated recycling system able to utilize 99% of the waste material. When developing the Scala, PulPac has utilized Beijer Electronics’ BoX2 controller and servo motors to create a fully integrated system that is tailormade to control the Dry Molded Fiber process. This includes optimization of servo motor timings to create an even flow of material. The solution also allows operators to have easy control of the process by the user-friendly X2 HMI panel and prevent malfunctions and optimize operational uptime.
PulPac machines are highly advanced machines that rely on modern automation solutions.
PulPac was looking for a technology partner that could help develop a completely integrated digital automation solution. Due to their patented process requiring a lot of parameters to be controlled efficiently, PulPac needed a system that could manage and control the process and a supplier that could help integrate the complex setup of iX and BCS Tools software and the hardware. Beijer Electronics was chosen by PulPac based on many factors, such as help from Field Application Engineers, relationship, technical support, local presence, and unique product features.
"During the R&D phase, we got great input whenever we needed help designing the system. We have a technology partner in Beijer, with whom we can explore new R&D projects." says Andreas Pils, Platform Owner, PulPac.
PulPac has built the Scala machine around Beijer Electronics BoX2 controller together with fifteen servo drives and motors. The operation of the machine is controlled by the operator through the X2 HMI panel located on the operator side of the machine. The system allows PulPac to control the speed of the infeed material to the mill and then transfer it smoothly through the machine adding barriers and to the molding process where the packaging product is produced.
"By integrating Beijer controllers, HMIs and servo motors, we are able to create a fully integrated machine where we can optimize the process through software." explains Andreas Pils, Platform Owner, PulPac.
With the combination of PulPac's patented technology and the automation system running in the background, PulPac maintains their position as a pioneer in sustainable fiber packaging with the launch of Scala.
